Union Jack Waterfall Buffet

Are you ready??? :-) This piece of furniture was one of those pieces that literally morphed while in process. We'll start with an AFTER shall we?

You like???

When someone handed it over to me like this

(BEFORE)

I thought - ok...I'll just paint it pretty and call it good.

But then I noticed the top was peeling...well,

the whole thing was in bad shape!

Look what was underneath the top though.

BEAUTIFUL!!!!

I just had to incorporate a stained top somehow.

Sooo...I ended up with this.

Ummmmmm..........well..........

this is not.how.I.had.envisioned.it.in.my.head. :-(

Hmmmmmm????

Thinking......thinking.......what to do now?

Somehow the Union Jack symbol came to mind.

Of course! That would look awesome!!!

I hope....  :-)

Finishing Details:

Minwax Jacobean - 2 coats

Tung Oil- 2 coats

ASCP Paris Gray (large stripes)

ASCP Old White (skinny stripes)

Rustoleum Gloss Navy Blue Spray Paint

Annie Sloan Clear Wax

FROGTAPE

Kilz Primer Spray Paint (not pictured)

I'm going to need to buy an ENTIRE

new roll of FROGTAPE! :-)

Boy, that was a lot of taping.

Two deep drawers in the middle.

One long skinny top with three divided drawers on the right.

New oil-rubbed bronze pulls with brass highlights

(in stock @ Lowe's)

A little distressing.....

And a little more distressing....  :-)

Original hinges were used.

The antique waterfall style somehow fits perfectly, and

I love that the blue part is high gloss and the gray and white

are a low sheen from the wax finish!

It could be used as a dresser, entry table, or

console table and has great storage.

It definitely makes a statement without being too bold.

I really contemplated adding the traditional red, but

just really fell in love with the cool tones

and nautical feel of the piece.

Dimensions are 54"long x 20"wide x 35.5"high

Engine Red Chalkboard Play Table

I got this coffee table from some family awhile back and I had absolutely no clue what to do with it. Smoked glass, curves, clunky, ??? It's honestly not something I'd ever pick up. BUT....now, after a little Rustoleum Colonial Red, I'm reconsidering because I think it turned out pretty darn cute!

Throw in some cute baskets

Two small drawers on either side for storage

And you have a super fun chalkboard table

for the kiddos to play at!

Let's not forget a good before picture.

Peacock Blue Mirror

I have had this minor obsession lately with that
beautiful bright peacock blue color.

I've been dying to paint something bright lately
and landed on this piece.

It's sitting on top of our mantle here.

I used Rustoleum Painter's Touch in Satin Lagoon

And Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Gray.

I envision this as a "big girl" mirror in either a teen's room
or glam setting over a vanity or powder room.

An Interesting Chair Re-do, a Sneak Peak, and YOUR Opinion!

First of all -Woah! Welcome to all of my new e.mail subscribers!

Where did you all come from?!!! Thanks for joining us. :-)

Seriously, right now I'm so crazy busy getting ready for our camping trip and setting up all of these amazing Feature Interviews, but boy am I excited - for BOTH! You're in for a treat my friends.

As for projects, awhile back my aunt had this super old, kind of weird, rustic chair. She was like, "Do you want it???" Sure, why not?

It's pretty different for me, but I just tried to go with it.

I've really been wanting to do something bright,

and this could have gone many different ways.

Remember my poll on Facebook?

I chose a Navy Blue color to paint dropcloth material for the seat.

TOTALLY IMPERFECT!

It kind of reminds me of a giraffe - a cute one. :-)

I think it's a bit rough - my upholstery skills definitely need some polishing.

The frame is this rough wood with arms and legs attached.

It's weird, and funky, and maybe something fun for you!

Which one do you like better and why?

The white is a painted (yet to be distressed) version of the left.

I personally love that I can use it as a vase or candle holder.

Engine Red Playroom Dresser

My kids (mostly my oldest) are always horrified when I begin to paint a piece of furniture, then love it and are sad when I sell it.  Go figure! So although I wasn't planning on keeping this one, through a couple mishaps and change of plans, it ended up being a keeper and going directly to the playroom. I'm calling him -

Irish meaning "little fiery one"

It's actually going to have a little tv on top for movies in the playroom,

but I had to stage it with a few of my favorite kiddy things! :-)

The kids LOVE it!

It was originally going to be ASCP Old White, distressed and the whole works,

but then Bubba did this

You can see I was just getting around to distressing -

not far from being done. Grrrrrrr........still love the boy. :-)

Soooo, I was going to try and go gray, didn't love it.

It pretty much became primed and I used spray paint in

Colonial Red Satin with a semi-gloss polycrylic brushed on to seal it.

Ta-da! A fire engine red dresser perfect for play room fun. :-)

What do you think? A good after???

I got to meet with a friend today to brainstorm house design ideas-

my brain is going crazy and I CAN'T WAIT to get started on some concept boards!

We're talking an entire house here people. :-)
