Chalkboard Armoire and A Tiger

Welcome to RustiChic, which is currently transitioning to This, That & LIFE! Please "Like" the new facebook page to stay up to date on all the changes and the most recent content including Furniture and the Beach House before and afters. You can also find me on Twitter and Pinterest. Glad to have you today!

~~~~~
What is it about 3 years old? Seriously.......It's like this magical number
that brings upon pre-3-year-old-picture-destruction.
Exhibit A:
If you are laughing....
1. It's NOT funny!!! (of course it is) ;-)
2. It gets worse.....
He knew he was Busted with a capital B.
"But I a Tiger mommy"...he tells me so innocently.
"Well, that wouldn't be so bad, IF....
.....it were not THE DAY of your
3 year old Birthday pictures!"
I say in (possibly) a calm, cool voice.
Forget that!!!!!
It was more like hands on the head,
texting my sister (photographer) pictures, saying,
"OH MY WORD WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!!!!!!!"
Somehow (baby wipes and hand soap) we managed to get all
of the ink off of the arms, legs, calves, toes, elbows and forehead.
My second child cut her bangs before her 3 three old picts.
What's the deal anyway? Oh life... ;-)
As for a Beach House update, we FINALLY picked an
interior color that actually goes with the trim and doors as
shown above. I have a complete new found
respect for whites and beiges, because they definitely are
NOT all the same, and play an very important role in making
some homes work (like ours).
It even has the perfect name...
Powder Sand by Behr.
Now I feel like it's all downhill from here on out!
~~~~

In the meantime, I was able to finish up this armoire
that's been hanging out in my
"In The Works" box!

TV Armoire in unwaxed ACSP and the black panels are chalkboard paint!
Can wax seal for additional charge. Unwaxed will allow for natural distressing.
 The doors open and slide into the armoire, and
it comes equipped with two outlet plugs.

$275 cash

Dimensions are: 42" wide (at top) x 76" high x 22.15" deep (at top)
contact me for arrangements
 through fb or at rustichic@gmail.com

Last, but not least!

I am off to The Farm Chicks Show in Spokane, WA.
This is my first time going and I am SO excited!!!
Also, because my amazing sister is coming with
me for a fun sister weekend!

Then home for a day and off again to Vegas with the hubby and
some friends to have some fun & relaxation.

See you soon!

Beach House Update and Armoire Sneak Peek

***We're in transition ~ headed to www.thisthatandlife.com.
Stay up to date by following along on Facebook!
Same stuff...different place. ;-)

Well, it's been a busy week getting things going
on the renovation and interior design of The Beach House.
Hooray!

Here is the upper bathroom started.
Taking out the bath and weird gold shower really
opened up the space and you felt like you could
actually breath...the before was
b.a.d!

I finally went went through my 1 inch stack of color chips
and have settled on these colors through Benjamin Moore.
You may have seen on Facebook that I painted the
sample colors on cardboard so that I could move them around
in different lighting and shadows, etc.

It really made a HUGE difference and actually
 saved a ton of time.
Not to mention "color blocks" that could show
through the end result!

On another note, I was beyond excited when these green
chairs came back in stock on Overstock.com, so
I snatched up two for the family room and they arrived
within a few days - the fabric and quality is just awesome.
They make me smile. :-)

Last but not least, today was GORGEOUS, and I
have been missing painting and working on furniture pieces
surprisingly A LOT! You know the
"In The Works"
that's been at the top left of my blog page?

Well...here's a sneak peek!
My awesome facebook fans helped
me out in deciding between
mirrors and chalkboard paint.

Look what won. :-)

I hope you have a wonderful
Memorial Day
weekend,
remembering and honoring those
who have fought and died for our country
and our freedom.

"Memorial Day used to be a solemn day of mourning, a sacred day of remembrance to honor those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. Businesses closed for the day. Towns held parades honoring the fallen, the parade routes often times ending at a local cemetery, where Memorial Day speeches were given and prayers offered up. People took the time that day to clean and decorate with flowers and flags the graves of those the fell in service to their country."

God Bless,

~Anneke

Back from Vacation and Back to Work!

Aloha! And Happy Monday!!!

As much as I'm missing my time in Maui, I'm really
SO happy to be back home! I especially missed my kiddos!!!
It really was a great opportunity for my hubby and I
to celebrate our 10-year anniversary.
Thankful to God and thankful for Grandmas! ;-)

Today, I'd love to share a few quick highlights, and
then it's beach house, beach house, beach house!

Did I say beach house???
Cuz it's on!

Enjoy!

We snorkeled and swam with giant sea turtles, went zip-lining (do it!),
slept, ate, slept, ate, and laid on the beach.
But one of our BIG highlights started on this
little path (shown below) off the road to Hana.

Just before mile marker 11, you can follow this
path a little ways, look to the left and see this....

Gorgeous!
....then, to the right and see this.

This is Lower Puohokamoa Falls my friends -
a 200 ft. high waterfall.
Not much of a great picture here, but keep reading!

We were using the popular guide book Maui Revealed
and I browsed it quickly, thinking it basically said,
"Follow the path to the waterfall."

Um, no. It did not.

It really basically said,
"Go a ways on the path and enjoy the
beautiful view, unseen by drivers!"

But HEY, we're adventurous!!!
So we.kept.going. ;-)

Oh my goodness, we saw some very cool things...

But after not too long, we were headed straight down.
Literally...straight down, 200 ft.

The end of the path????

Oh that??????
Why yes, that IS a rope...to basically rapel down!!!

Ohhhhhhhh, but it was SO fun!
We got to hang out at the bottom of the waterfall
and go swimming and NO ONE ever showed up.

Other times of the year the waterfall is rushing, but this day
it was calm, not to warm out, and the upper terrain surrounding
the waterfall is lush green foilage - I couldn't capture that with
my little phone camera! But talk about GORGEOUS!!!
Wow.

This was one of my fave pictures of
a little side cave at Black Sand Beach. :-)

And that's our trip in a super tiny nutshell!

Now that I'm home, I went to pick up some paint samples
for the beach house this past weekend and came home with these....

Looks like I need to order my own personal fan deck. LOL :-)
They really all look so different though, I swear!

Thanks to everyone on the Facebook page for giving input on colors!

I've Got A BIG, FAT BOOK Here Today!!! Here's What's Changing!

Wow! Sometimes change comes about in our lives in different ways and at different times that are a bit unexpected. Sounds pretty familiar if you're human, right? Well this has definitely been the case for me and our family in the past few months!  As for RustiChic, don't worry, it's not going away...but it is changing.

As I touched on this a bit here, I've really been contemplating on my past year of blogging and everything it has entailed (remember??? I was totally clueless). It's never really formed into something that felt true to myself as I have many passions and interests which I often wanted to share and discuss with you, buuuut didn't feel this was the place to do that...a furniture/design kind of blog, you know? I'm actually even admitting to you to telling my husband (don't hate me!), "I seriously think I'd bang my head against a wall if this was all I ever wrote about...I'd leave it in a heartbeat."

BUT HOLY COW!!!
I GOT A SERIOUS BLOGGING BUG AND I LOVE IT!!!!!

I love the people and community, the inspiration, the encouragement, all of the education/teaching ~ it's unique and like nothing else, truly.

SO, I've felt conflicted and trying to resolve this "dilemma" of mine. Are you still with me???

I sure hope you'll stick around, because NOW, I am SUPER excited, and I don't think about banging my head against a wall. ;-)

I love design & I love building and refinishing furniture, but beyond that I have greater passions.... Most of them revolve around relationships and lifestyle choices concerning health/fitness, family, and parenting. I'm a musician, an advocate for those who can't speak for themselves, and a pretty serious food and fashion fanatic. How would I balance all of these I thought??? It sounds like a big explosion of confusion. Hmmm....

Well, the answer is = I don't have all the answers,
and I'm ok with that.
I hope you are too! :-)

So here's the scoop!

I'm very excited to be working with Kimberly of My Whole Heart Design to create a new blog page which will incorporate RustiChic furniture and designs.  The new name of the blog will be:

and will mostly cover Interior Design, RustiChic furniture, DIY, Home, Family, and a bit of Health!
(Oh! And the occasional food and fashion post and highlighted opportunities for outreach) ;-)
I've set up a Facebook page to start the transition and would love
to have you "Like" the page and stay in the loop.
This is definitely a Community-based page!

I'm still working out all the details of everything,
but ultimately deciding I don't have to have it all figured out.
Things have a way of working out in their perfect time.

~~~~~
So after ALL that, can you believe I'm actually ditching you???
No...for real.
The hubby and I are headed to Maui to celebrate our 10-year Anniversary!!!
YAY!!!
(It's really June 29th, but hey!)
We're outta here, Kimberly's working on the page,
and I'm in constant design mode for The Beach House.
It's full force on that project so it's ready for summer.
I can't wait for you to see AFTERS!!!
We made our first big purchase ~ Did you see it on Facebook?!!!
I'd love your input on my question about final Craigslist negotiating savings.
"Huh?" you say??? Go check it out!!! ;-)
And remember my obsession with pillows???
Here's today's shopping finds:
Anyway, I know I wrote what seems like a big.fat.book on here today so
 if you made is this far - thank you - you're awesome.
Have a great weekend
&
Happy Mother's Day!!!
Guest Posting Today!
Yesterday was a full afternoon at The Beach House
taking measurements of basically everything.
It's exciting to finally get in there and start
envisioning how the space could look.
I'm loving it already!
On another note, I'm excited to be Guest Posting today
over at Embracing Change with Stacey!
Yay!!! :-)
I hope you'll take a moment to check it out.
I'm giving everyone a little
before, a "fix", and a "progress"
of our son's bedroom.
And ohhhhhhh did it need some fixing
after my first design decision flopped. :-/
Live and learn right?
Here's a sneak peek!
fyi...we're loving it now.
Have a fantastic weekend!
The Beach House - BEFORE PICTURES!!!
It's official - we have a beach house!!!
We signed the papers this morning.
It stills seems a bit surreal...how did a 5-10 year
dream/goal happen "randomly" within 2 months time???
I'm calling it a blessing.
How often does THIS happen??? Are you ready? We put in an
offer to the bank...someone (not sure who) doesn't
get the papers in on time to the right place...whatever.
SO, they come back to us with a house price that's LESS
than our offer!!!
Wait now.........not just a little less.
Like $60k less.
WHAT???!!!!!
Yup...I'm calling it a HUGE blessing,
because stuff like this deosn't just happen.
This is an example of just one of many things I've
wanted to share with you, but had to be patient and
wait for everything to go through.
Now it's GO time!!! YAY!!!
This is going to be fixed up to be a vacation rental, so
get your beach gear ready and come out for a visit! ;-)
I'm SO excited I finally get to show some pictures I snapped
on my phone the first day we went out there to
"take a look". :-)
WELCOME!!! Lol :-D
Looking from entry into the living room and kitchen.
Pretty good kitchen to work with here!
Main Bath
Looking out from the dining nook.
Wouldn't you LOVE to grab a book or magazine
with your coffee, tea, or whatever, sitting
on a built in bench and enjoy the view???
I know I would!!!
That's my hubby coming out from the kitchen onto the patio.
Looking at the lower patio from the upper deck.
The upper deck and garage to boat launch.
A personal boat launch (that sold my hubby!)
This upper deck is HUGE!!!
A crazy panoramic pict. from my phone! Wow!!!
If you're looking for a place to stay this summer, well
here you go! We're going to whip it into gorgeousness!!!
If you are interested in supplying your products in The Beach House
anything from art, bedding, pillows, kitchen supplies, rugs, well...
ANYthing that belongs in a beautiful beach home
please feel free to e-mail me with questions! I will be putting together a
Design Resource Book that will be in the Beach House for rental
parties to look through as well as on the final webpage.
Be thinking of some great names for the place too!
I may run a contest or something and
the winning name gets a prize. Sound like fun???
I can't WAIT to get started and share this transformation
with all of you!
Here's to SUMMER!
