Engine Red Playroom Dresser

My kids (mostly my oldest) are always horrified when I begin to paint a piece of furniture, then love it and are sad when I sell it.  Go figure! So although I wasn't planning on keeping this one, through a couple mishaps and change of plans, it ended up being a keeper and going directly to the playroom. I'm calling him -

[Keegan]
Irish meaning "little fiery one"

It's actually going to have a little tv on top for movies in the playroom,
but I had to stage it with a few of my favorite kiddy things! :-)

The kids LOVE it!

It was originally going to be ASCP Old White, distressed and the whole works,
but then Bubba did this

You can see I was just getting around to distressing -
not far from being done. Grrrrrrr........still love the boy. :-)

Soooo, I was going to try and go gray, didn't love it.
It pretty much became primed and I used spray paint in
Colonial Red Satin with a semi-gloss polycrylic brushed on to seal it.

Ta-da! A fire engine red dresser perfect for play room fun. :-)

What do you think? A good after???
As long as they love it -
(yeah! we get to keep it! thank you! thank you! thank you!)
I'm happy. :-)

I got to meet with a friend today to brainstorm house design ideas-
my brain is going crazy and I CAN'T WAIT to get started on some concept boards!
We're talking an entire house here people. :-)

And yes, my friend - although my brain is about to pop with all these ideas,
you are doing me a wonderful favor.
I am SO excited!

French Hutch Reveal!

It's been awhile since I picked up this piece of furniture, and I'm so glad I didn't get to it right away. I've learned a lot since then! I was going to refinish her in a safe and classic black or cream, but it just wasn't happening and I was getting impatient. Well, my impatience won me over and I got to work with some ASCP in Duck Egg Blue. So without further ado, I present to you....

"Adeline"

I love how the Duck Egg Blue turned out!
Some finishing details:
Clear waxed, a white primer and Graphite mix for the interior,
and both Duck Egg Blue and Paris Grey on the hardware.
Graphite used on the interior lower cabinets.
Sealed on the upper interior with Polycrylic,
and lower cabinets with a spray lacquer.

Upper interior light, wire lined non-opening upper side doors,
glass opening upper middle door.
New shelving was made and wrapped with dropcloth material!!!

Now prepare to be inundated with photos
in no particular order! :-)

Quick Tip Tuesday #6

For this week's quick tip, I wanted to share an article via Real Simple that I read recently about 5 Paint Tricks and Tips. Some of them were new for me....like the upside paint can. Have any of you heard of these and do them? I'd love to know how you find them to be helpful!

http://www.realsimple.com/home-organizing/home-improvement/painting/painting-tricks-time-savers-10000001057029/index.html

Also....I do a lot posting like this via my iPad, and find that I can't perform all of the tasks (like links!) that I'd like to - do you have any tricks for me? :-) Maybe the iPad2 doesn't have these technical kind of issues??? Just throwing that out there for you! :-)

Have a great Tuesday and be sure to visit tomorrow for the hutch reveal! YAY!!!

This Weekend's Big Find

Well, I'm not quite ready to reveal the hutch to you today, BUT I am excited to share with you what will be next in line.

Meet "Ava" (a beautiful name I love, but never made it to one of my daughters!)

My schedule has presented you with this night time pick, but I'll definitely get a brighter one for the sidebar. :-) Just wait until you see the inside - can't wait to get started!

I hope you had a great weekend.

Fun Finds and Then Some...

What a week. I hope it was great for you, but if not - here's to the weekend!

I have a bit of a mix for you today -
starting with some Fun Finds from none other than Ross. Oh yeah.

Some cute mosaic tables. Love the green!

~~~~~
A candidate for diy lamps - it lost. But still love it!
~~~~~

This pict. does this no justice. It's so neat in person. :-)

~~~~~
LOVE these - every time I see them!
Definitely on the splurge list for me (even at Ross).
~~~~~

These just remind me of fun, glamour, and Christmas.

~~~~~
These benches were $60 each. Not so "rustic", but I love them. :-)
~~~~~

These were at Fred Meyer.

I love the dark iron lids and base.

I would definitely use these in my home! wink.wink. ;-)

~~~~~
Now......see this cute kid??? He's two.
He likes to do stuff like this -
AHHHHH!!!!!! NOOOOOO!!!!!!!
I WAS PRACTICALLY DONE WITH THAT!!!!!!
HUUUUGGGEEEE SIGH. :-(
(For those wondering, that's actually Latex Primer
with a touch of ASCP Graphite - that doesn't wipe off as easily.)
But then I remember this.....
He's totally into this copying stage,
so of course he wants to try all this fun stuff mommy is doing!
I should feel complimented, right?
*breeeeeathe*
It's an easy fix. :-)
~~~~

Last we have a little sneak peak of the hutch in process.....

I am SO excited for the big reveal.

Between catching this last bit of nice weather
for last minute "summer" house projects
(i.e. staining shingles, sealing concrete - hmmm....sounds like furniture stuff!) -

I'm shooting for early next week to share this hutch with you!

Have a fantastic weekend!!!
